WE ARE PART OF THE MILLIONS – Solidarity Movement for a New Ethiopia (SMNE),

WE ARE PART OF THE MILLIONS

The SMNE is based on the belief that the future well being of all our Ethiopian society and our global society rests in the hands of those among us who can put “humanity before ethnicity,” or any other distinctions that divide and dehumanize other human beings from ourselves;inspiring us to care about these “others;” not only because of the intrinsic God- given value of each life, but also because “none of us will be free until all are free.” These are the underlying principles of the Solidarity Movement for a New Ethiopia (SMNE), a non-violent, non-political, grassroots social justice movement of diverse Ethiopians; committed to bringing truth, justice, freedom, equality, reconciliation, accountability and respect for human and civil rights to the people of Ethiopia and beyond.
We believe the destiny of Ethiopia is in the hand of its children. As each and every one of us empower ourselves and learn to assert and demand our God-given rights, the day will be the resurrection of Ethiopia. Only we, Ethiopians can bring lasting, peaceful and positive change in our country. There can never be any power that can withstand the united and organized force of the millions.
Solidarity Movement has always supported any peaceful and democratic activities, by any political or civic groups in Ethiopia, which are aimed at empowering our people. We believe such efforts deserve the full and committed support of all of us.
That is why we are welcoming and enthusiastic by the launch of the MV4JLR (Millions voice for Justice and land reform). We have learnt that there are plans to hold town hall meetings, peaceful and legal demonstrations in more than 14 towns all over Ethiopia.
MV4JLR may be called by the UDJ, but demanding justice, land reform and freedom are issues of all Ethiopians. These are issues of the Solidarity Movement.
Therefore, it is with great honor and pleasure that we state our strong support for MV4JR. We stand in full solidarity with our people back home and declare that we are also part of the millions.
Regardless of our ethnicity, religion or political affiliation, we encourage every Ethiopia to be part of the millions and contribute his/her share. “Nobody Made a Greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little” says Edmund Burke. What we can offer may be little; we may think ourselves as ordinary people. However little out of millions, the millions of ordinary men and women are powers that are unshakable!
